SCALING AND ROOT PLANING
Care of your mouth: Rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day for 1-2 days with warm salt water. One teaspoon of salt to 8oz. water. Start home care as instructed immediatly. In the beginning you will need to be extra gentle with treated areas.
After oral irrigation: Refrain from brushing, rinsing, eating or smoking for 2 hours to prevent loss of antibiotic.
Discomfort: Your gums may beome "achy", take what you would normally take for a headache to eliminate any discomfort. Also sensitivity to hot and cold may temporarily occur.
Eating: Your next meal should be soft. Avoid any hard "crunchy" foods like corn chips, potato chips, popcorn, etc. for the next 3-4 days while treated area begins to heal.
Swelling: Very seldom does swelling or jaw stiffness occur, however if it does, place a warm moist towel to the area. Place towel for 20 min on, 20 min off untill stiffness subsides.
Smoking: Please do not smoke following scaling and root planning procedures. Tobacco smoke is an irratant to healing. Refrain from smoking for at least 24 hours.
